What is International Literature? How is it different from Multicultural Literature? Why?
International Literature are books that are orginally published in another country and later translated to English. Multicultural Literature is literature that teaches children about different cultures, beliefs, and values around the world. Multicultural Literature gives the children a way to experince the way other people around the world live. It's important to use in the classroom because it will show them what else is going on in the world. It will help them to experince what other children around the world do. It can teach them that even thought they live in different country's they might do some things that are similar.
International Activities
1)Have the students find a book about a different country and compare and constast each country. 2) Read an international book aloud to the class and have them draw a picture of what they really found interesting of tha book.
Multicultural Activities
1) Have the children write or draw pictures of something that they do for a holiday or a special event and share it with the class to see the different cultures that may be in the room. 2) Have the children find a book and journal what they find interesting of someone else's culture or values.

This is the second time I read about a compare and contrast activity for these books... I think it's a great idea. So the students will see that for the most part human is human.. no matter where you're from.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea to have the children draw about he different cultures. I think that by visualizing the cultures would help them see the difference.
