Historical Fiction
What is Historical Fiction?
Historical Fiction consist of books in whichthe settings and scenes are set in the past it may have real people or places, but the main characters and story are fictional.
How can you use Historical Fiction in the classroom?
I think you can use historical fiction in the classroom in many ways. The children are able to read these books and get a understanding of what it was like in the past. They will be able to see what it was like to live in that time and place. I think it would be good to have the students read a book then have them compare and constast what it was like to live in the past to how it is now.

Contemporary Realistic Fiction
1) Create a super sentence definition of Contemporary Realistic Fiction.
Contemporary realistic fiction is a realistic story that is consistent with the lives of real people, but it is not always true.
2) How might I use this in the classroom?
I will have books avaliable in my classroom because I feel it is an important for the children to read. It's a good way to introduce students to different real life topics, even if sometimes they are not completely true. I just think this will help the students understand what goes on in the real world. It's can help students that maybe experincing something similar get a better understanding of what is really going on. I think having books like this avaliable for the students to read is great because they can maybe relate to the story lines.

Modern Fantasy
What is modern fantasy?
Modern fantasy is literature that is set in the real world, but the author has alterd one or more characteristics of everyday life. So the characters can go back in time or even imagine that something is happening, when in reality they are just using their imagination.
Design a classroom activity. (Name, Directions)
Well I really liked the book Where the Wild Things Are and I think that younger children will enjoy this book also. I think its a great way for children to use their imagination.
My assignment would be called My Imaginary Landt. This assignment is so students are able to use their imagination and think about if they had a secret land, what would they do there? What is like?
My Imaginary Land
First of course I would read them the book Where the Wild Things Are.
Then the students will come up with their own imagingary place. They are going to put picutres, animals or anything else that is in their Land
They can use a shoe box and put it on its side so they are able to put in their objects, so that they will be able to show it to the class.
They can color in the shoe box or paste construction paper for a background. Then they can print or draw pictures of desired animals or objects. They will cut them and paste them so that they look 3-D. They can even put toys like insects, lizards, or snakes. Then the students will tell us what they have in their and why did they put that it in their land. Then they will explain what do they do on their land. They students will have about a week and half to do this project.

TRADITIONAL LITERATURE
1) Traditional literature is children based, passed down from generation to generation, and a story where good vs. evil.
2) Traditional Literature can be used in the classroom so that children can see that dreams can come true. It help help them understand good vs evil. I think that traditional literature can help them see that dreams can come true. It can help them kinda get away and use their imagination.Books like Cinderella and Snow White can show that all the hard work one does will someday be paid off. A lesson that can be used is to have the students write down how they felt after reading it. Then have them write down a goal they they would like to achieve and how they are going to accomplish their goal.
3) I will definately use traditional literature in my classroom. I think it's a great way for the children to make goals for themselves and use their imagination. With traditonal literature i think students will see that even if things are hard at times it show them that they do eventually get better.

PICTURE BOOKS!!
What are picture books? When can you use them? How? Are there any limitations?
Picture books are books that the pictures can tell the whole story. Picture books can have text or no text to go along with the illustrations. The pictures are an important part of the book if not the most important. Young students can pick up a picture book and just look at the pictures and they will know what the story is aboutPicture books can be used before any lesson. There are so many different types of pictures that they can be incorpated into any lesson no matter what age group.
How do you evaluate or select picture books? What is the process?
When evaluating a picture book you need to keep in mind the age group. Make sure the pictures and the story is appropriate. You need to make sure that the students are ready for certain kinds of books emotionally.
I love picture books! I think it is a great way teach in a fun way. I think you can do so much with pictures books. You can introduce a lesson with them because there are so many different types of picture books and it can help them understand when there are pictures to go along with what is being said. You can have students create there own. I will use picture books in my classroom because I think that alot can be done with picture books.

International vs Multicultural Books
What is International Literature? How is it different from Multicultural Literature? Why?
International Literature are books that are orginally published in another country and later translated to English. Multicultural Literature is literature that teaches children about different cultures, beliefs, and values around the world. Multicultural Literature gives the children a way to experince the way other people around the world live. It's important to use in the classroom because it will show them what else is going on in the world. It will help them to experince what other children around the world do. It can teach them that even thought they live in different country's they might do some things that are similar.
International Activities
1)Have the students find a book about a different country and compare and constast each country. 2) Read an international book aloud to the class and have them draw a picture of what they really found interesting of tha book.
Multicultural Activities
1) Have the children write or draw pictures of something that they do for a holiday or a special event and share it with the class to see the different cultures that may be in the room. 2) Have the children find a book and journal what they find interesting of someone else's culture or values.

Describe how to effectively evauluate books for children. Is this valued-based?
I think there are many ways to evaulate books for children. When chosing books for a classroom you definately need to make sure what you are going to put in it. First of all I think you should read the book and ask yourself a few questions. For example can it really happen, does it make sense, do you think it is worth reading, is it something you children would enjoy reading, and is the book apporiate for the age group. I do think that it is valued-based because you are going to be choosing the books that are going to be in your classroom library. They are going to be what the teacher believes the children needs to know.
Why do character/setting analysis on children's books? Purpose? What does it accomplish?
It's done so that the children will be able to see the story from different sides. It helps you set up the story so you can understand the characters more. When you do analyzing the settings and the characters it can help in deciding if the book is a good book for children. It can also help the students understand the books more because you get a better understanding of what the characters in the story are going through.

Chapter 2
Chapter 2 begins with saying that there have been many milestones in the history of literature. Children Literature books are made for children and their interests, needs, and reading levels.
Oral Tradition
It's was on every continent around the world. They developed folktales and mythologies. These books mostly consisted of the human beginnings and natureal phenomena. They even had history thatn would go from generation to generation. The "Castle tale" were according to Robert Leeson during the European oral tradition.
Printed Books
German Johannes Gutenberg discovered a method to produce a mass production of books. This was considered a significant event in the mid 1450s. Soon after that William Caxton came up with the printed press in 1476. With the creation of the printing press it led to the creation of hornbooks.
John Locke's Influence
He believed that a child's mind is a blank page on which ideas can be printed. In Some Thoughts Concerning Education published in 1693 taught milder ways of teaching and bringing up children. He believed that children that were able to read should be provided with easy and pleasant books suited for them abilities. A book that would encourage them to read.
Fantasy, Aventure, and Real People
As the world changes so do the views of children. Fantasy books are for childrens enjoyment. More educators and parents believe that books should entertain rather then just to instruct them. Adventure in the 19th century was exploring different areas. These books are a way to go to a place that you might not be able to go. It was just a way to get away. Real People in the late 19th century books consisted of real situations of characters.
There are alot of different types of books that all have different things I think that having these options are great as a teacher. You can give each students a different types of stories according to their interests. I like having options of what types of books to read. I think it is a way to kind of escape and get away for everyday things. Students can also choose which books they enjoy reading. I think the more a student likes the books they are going to want to continue reading. I think it is great to be able to incorparate different kinds of books into a lesson and with so many options you don't have to just have one.

My Favorite Teacher
My favorite teacher was my kindergarten teacher. It was then when I decided that I wanted to be a teacher. I remember wanting to go to school because I just loved being in her classroom. She would make learning fun and interesting. She made the classroom feel safe and inviting. She was always very nice and understanding. She was just a great teacher. She helped me when my grandmother passed away she was there to listen to me and help me get through this hard time. She was just a good genuine person. Here I am years later going to school to become a teacher.
Chapter 1 Summary/Values
Chapter 1 Summary
In the first chapter it talks about the values of literature for children. Literature is supposed to motive, entice, and insturuct. Literature also is supposed to open the door to endless adventures. Literature should also be taught at a young age. Literature can also help in the development of children. As children we learn in stages and not at all at the same rate. The four stages are Language Development, Cognitive Development, Personality Development, and Social Development. Personality Development is different every individual No two people will have the same personality. Some people's personality continues to change as they get older, others change because of dramatic events that occurs in their life. Another thing that Literature plays a strong role in is helping us understand the value of our cultural heritage as well. When reading a book it lets the imagation of the child wander. There are alot of different books that a child can read and it can teach them a number a things. There are informational books, fiction and nonfiction just to name a few. There are books for children at all different age groups.
Values
A value are what help you decide what actions you will take or what goals you decide to make for yourself. It is something that can be taught to you by parents, friends and even teachers. A value that is very important to me is respect. I think I learned this from mother. Respect is something you need to have not only towards yourself but towards others. Whens speaking with someone older I was taught to say Yes sir, yes ma'am.Even when I was younger and in schoool teachers taught you to say please and thank you. I think that certain values can be taught of course we can't force the values that we believe on someone. I think that respect is one that can be taught because as you get older you will need to be respectful. When you are in a job interview I think it is important to be respectful to the person giving you the interview if you really want the job. It's just a way of showing that you have very good manners. I tell my nephews that they need to say please when they ask for something or say thank you when they are given something.
